She’s svelte, she’s modern, she’s got big boobs. Yep, it’s the WowWee Femisapien and she’s mine, all mine. This addition to my collection is the estrogen enriched version of the Robosapien. I think WowWee offers it so that the ladies of the world with an interest in robotics can have a robot they can better relate to.
It’s a popular robot and is kind of iconic of modern geekdom. Christina Aquilera even has one appear in her music video “Keeps Gettin’ Better,” dancing to the rhythm of the song. I picked her up so my Robosapien would have a friend, and make it a point not to look in their direction at night when the lights are out. A robot needs its privacy too.
Down! Down, dammit! Down!
Unlike previous robots from the mind of Mark Tilden, the genius behind WowWee robotics, she has no remote control. Instead, she is controlled with her hands. They are made to be joystick-like. You press them one way or another to achieve a routine for the robot to perform. You can also program her to do routines yourself. This is done by tilting her head, which is another control. You move her arms, legs and body –for instance moving her legs in a walking fashion, and she will remember the moves and duplicate them for you. It’s a kind of backdoor programming without a remote control.
I have no idea why they made her so Barbie-like. The iconic American doll, Barbie has breasts that in proportion, on a real woman, would give her a 42 EE bra size. I always figured it was so there would be room inside the robot’s shell in which to store the components of a modifying hack; installing a tiny video camera for instance.

But she will also respond to the Robosapien’s remote control, and this actually gives her more moves than she has on her own. Then too, she is controllable by the Robodance and USB-UIRT combination that runs on PCs. With that, I can make her dance synchronously with her old man, Robosapien. She also responds to the WowWee Roboremote, a device that is similar to Robodance, but in a more portable form.
Like most of my other WowWee robots, I picked her up at Amazon.com. Which only goes to show that I’m willing to pay a woman to play with me, I guess. But at the $49 I paid, it was a great deal, and my wife actually encourages me to be with her.
