For some reason, I like this little toy the best of all of my robots. Sure, the rest of them have all sorts of capabilities and this one is tiny and simplistic. But it really does act like a bug.
It pads about on its six little legs, antennae searching for obstacles. When its whisker-like antenna touch something, it backs up a few paces and sets out again in search of whatever it is that hexbugs search for. If you hold it in your hand it feels like a bug, especially when it’s turned on. Remarkably strong for its diminutive size, its little legs pound away repetitiously. There is no question that the little bug will wander relentlessly until it’s dime-sized wafer battery gives out. Replace the battery and the bug will live again.
I got my hexbug for free from Trossen Robotics. They were giving them away with each order over a certain amount and apparently I qualified.
There isn’t much more to say about the little guy. That’s one of the totally fascinating things about it. For as stupidly simple as it is, it holds hours of amusement. I plan to get a few more of these things. They’re totally cool.
