All new and improved

How something can be new yet be improved has always made me stop and think. If it’s new, how can it be improved over a previous iteration? Ahh, the vagaries of the English language.
Still, here it is, the all new and improved Deludia, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the previous and horribly crashed version. So I guess that’s how it can be both new and improved at the same time; one of those cases where things are the same only different.
I am still using WordPress, although my temptation is to use blogging software created by less frenetic engineers. They have way too much time on their hands over at WordPress, leading to a lot of updates to software that already works pretty well. It was their update that killed the previous messenger. Hopefully by jumping to the very latest and greatest version will give us some respite until we’re inundated by a new flurry of unnecessary updates.
Then again, it’s nice to see a company actually care about their products and customers. A lot of businesses these days simply don’t. A case in point is RoboBrothers, a company that sells a very expensive robot. Their $500 offering is supposed to be pretty good, but it’s hard to tell.
I say that because my first inquiries of RoboBrothers about their robot, RoboPhilo, brought delayed and then very terse responses. I tried to ask them twice about the capabilities of their robot only to get very few words back. I finally got my answers by going to other sites that reviewed the product and I decided to buy one. So I tried. And failed.
The software that they use for their merchant activities failed quietly during my transaction, leading me to believe I had bought a robot when I hadn’t. A few days later, about the time I was expecting to see it show up on my doorstep, I got a note asking me if I wished to buy the robot or not. I replied immediately saying that yes, I did, if they would ship it with 3rd day delivery or sooner. They never replied, being uninterested in whether anyone bought their robot or not, or inconvenienced by a failure of their point of sale system.
So I guess I should be grateful to the engineers at WordPress, who believe in their product and say so as their ‘code is poetry.’
Sadly, I never really liked poetry.
